Diving

If you neglect to explore the magic universe under the ocean's surface in the Maldives you'll only get to see a small part of this versatile country. The plants and animals on what little land there is land are exquisite but not really diverse. A glance below will show you the true wonders of the Maldives with an infinite amount of colours and species.
The visibility is incredible, the water luke warm and the sharks harmlesss, even friendly. This is your golden opportunity to have breathtaking encounters with some of the most fascinating sealiving animals. Anyone who has met a Manta will never be the same. These lucky people can usually name the day AND the place. Enormous, impossibly graceful the elegant mantas move softly, yet with an underlaying power that comes with 4-7 meters between the tips of the wings. Pure poetry in motion.

The Maldives is the place where you are most likely to see most different species, large as well as small. The gigantic, mysterious whale shark (feeds on plankton - only), the largest d´fish in the world, mantas, shraks, turtles all kinds of rays and over a thousand more including the puny little nudibranch.
Diving course in the Maldives is an absolute blast - and not hard at all
Thers nothing to diving. Not hard or complicated at all. It's all that equipment that can deter, but it will soon be as natural like pedals and chain on an ordinary bike. Everybody can dive, you certainly not have to be an athlete of any kind. Girls have an advantage, not needing as much oxygen as their heavier, male diving buddies. It is a perfect activity to do as a couple, superfun! Couples starting to dive together becomes even more of a team during the course. It's ratehr comical to observe! Being responsible for eachothers safety, communicating under water and sharing amazing experiences is great couple's therapy! Children can start diving from the age of 10, so called "Bubblemaker". They are annoyingly unafraid and like fish in the water. Loving every minute. Cool for families to do together as well. Common sense and a healthy respect for the rules of diving goes a long way. Diving should be cool and laid back, not macho.

The sensation of breathing under water is really intense and your movements should be calm and measured to save air and to let you see as much as polsible. Ifyou stay still the fishes will come to you, many are curious and happily swim by to take a closer look. Kanuhura corner in Lhaviyani atoll is populated by a large shoal/group of surgeounfish, the shimmering dark brown kind with flowing fins. They adore swimming through the bubbles created by divers with air tanks. The bubbles give them a good scratch and remove some of the parasite. It is a sight to behold when you see all the divers with a shoal of fish above, playing in the bubbles. Then turning over and seeing your own "bubblefans" above. They are inquisitive and some swim and gently sweep across your face. Human meets fish indeed! Encounters with nature of this kind is kind of addictive. Aaahhh..the Maldives.

There are many courses to choose from, but if you are taking one you might as well do the whole certificate at once. Det har du kvar resten av livet. There can hardly be a better place to learn diving than the Maldives. Even the perfect natural conditions aside, the quality is very high on diving instructors and safety. You'll be very well taken care of , noone has to feel silly, everybody's welcome. The ambience among the dive staff is usually wonderful, maybe because they work so closely together and hang out privately too. Every Maldivian resort has a dive center. If you want to save time you can finish the theory part at home.

Bluefaced Angelfish
Are you a diver already? Then you may want to try Nitrox or maybe a Shark course. Most dive centers have a very large selection of courses to choose from and seemingly endless dive sites. Maybe do your first night dive? All imaginable equipment is for hire and of a high standard. Quality snorkeling things I recommend buying. Mine are from 1999 and work perfectly. Good not having to hire and a fresher feeling havng your own. I adore snorkeling as well as diving and like to have my own at hand.
Cool girl - do you think she's happy? :-)
The Maldives have hundreds, maybe thousands of dive sites and seldom, or never, will you find 2 dive boats at the same site. A boat consits of 8-10 divers and a dive guide, no more. Morning dive, lunch dive, night dive, two tank dive, full day...you name it. Discover the world under water. The reward is enormous and you will have memories for life. An adventure for everybody!
