This is the day to beat. Finishing with a royal dinner at the Lighthouse with the silky nightbreeze caressing my skin, I wish for nothing.
08.15 "Daybreak Yoga" with Santhosh. He has worked on Baros for 2 years and is originally from Kerala, India. The sun has just risen and the temperature is cosily warm. This helps a bit when Santosh takes me through a number of positions in Hatha Yoga. The surroundings are breathtaking. On a smooth, wooden teak deck in the Indian Ocean with a steady gaze towards a distant horizon I graciously (?) reach out in a "Dancer's pose".
Lime restaurant provides another delicious lunch before my visit to the Marin Centre to meet with marine biologist Hollie from Leeds in England. She eagerly demonstrates a project shes managing on Baros replanting coral in the lagoon to make up for the damage done when building the water bungalows. A simple, yet genious method, and judging by the photos Hollie shows me, very successful. Many guests participate in the project to learn about the under water environment and give something back. Looks like fun too. Despite beeing here to go snorkeling on the house reef in the competent company of Hollie, I got to hear about this interesting scheme.

Baros is blessed with a sensational house reef. It has everything, including healthy coral. Today is extra rewarding since Hollie sees absolutely everything and points it out to me with the enthusiasm of a kid on christmas and patiently answers all my questions. One of my best snorkleling trips ever. 18.15 I see her yet again for the "Shark Course" and learn loads about these sleek, elegant creatures. A superb, fun presentation. Do not miss!
Palate highlight, Pascal takes me to dinner at The Lighthouse. A rare privilege to experience this legendary establishment. The rumours have not overstated. The soup starting the meal, a "Lobster Bisque", would make me swim from Male. Chilled new world chardonnay compliments perfectly. Head Chef Jaime, an aussie artist in the kitchen, obviously knows how to cook. Food to remember.
The white roof of The Lighthouse restaurant is a famous landmark in the Maldives
I never feel hurried on Baros. There is a special kind of tranquillity here and an assurance that the staff will take care of you. And how they do it! I can't recall ever having felt this welcome. Being on Baros is like coming home to stay with good friends and being pampered silly. Relaxed, untroubled and taken care of. The attention to detail is awe-making, must have taken oceans of hours to figure it all out. Consideration and low key luxury. Baros is indeed beautiful from the inside out.
A huge THANKS to all that made my visit on Baros unforgettable; Pascal, Mr Shuhan, Shareef, Thithi, Mr Jihad, Sree, Ayun, Santhosh, Hollie, Rein, Juli and many more. Also had the great honour and luck meeting Dr Maniku, one of the few men who has built Maldivian tourism from the starting hut on Kurumba in the early 70's.
