Crystal clear day at sea

Crystal clear day at sea

Bored in the Maldives. I think not. We went for a trip on a traditional Dhoni snorkeling in the clearest and most fish rich waters on the face of the earth.

The dhoni left Filihetyo about half past nine and had us back in good time for a delicious lunch at about one a clock. We are at the equator. The sun around here is not to be trifled with and is enhanced manyfold when being out on the unbeleivably turqoise sea. Myself an Anneli both had body parts requering extra attention when we got back to the island despite having used spf 50+. The snorkeling offered life changeing experiences. Apart from zillions of reef fish in every conceivable size, shape and colour, we had the privilege of swimming with a white tipped reef shark about five feet and the gracious eagle ray. (Yes mum, a SHARK!)  Both snorkeling and diving in the Maldives are oftened done on reefs with so called drop offs. This means that the reef wall descends steeply towards the big blue and gives a vertigo feeling of flying that takes your breath away. What an amazing encounter with nature!

Hamza Island. I could almost see St. Peter lurking in the bushes...cause this could easily be the pearly gates!

Three wonderful snorkeling sites later we went for a quick visit to the Island Hamza. A perfect little exotic cookie crumb. Filitheyo resort takes care of the island and therefore is allowed to use it as a picnic island. You can go here for a full day with your darling. :-) We dived from the dhoni and swimmed ashore. Strolling around the island took no more than 5 minutes. The lagoon is vast and luminescent in aqua colours, giving the impression of a film set. This is where you realise that there are still places in the world where everything is actually alright. Teary eyed and meditatively silent I go back to Filitheyo with a lingering feeling of peace and melancholy. Maybe it is all the love that has been seen on Hamza I feel. Magic. :-)
